Mathorn batteries are designed to be fully compatible with cameras and their software available at the time of their release. However, full compatibility is not guaranteed if software updates occurred after the batteries were manufactured. Absolutely! It is the recommended way to use lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, it is advisable to take advantage of the fact that the battery charges fastest within the range of 20% to 70% capacity, minimizing aging during this phase and positively impacting overall battery lifespan.
The charging speed of Mathorn batteries via USB depends on the USB power source’s efficiency and ambient temperature.
It is recommended to use a USB power source with a current output of at least 1100mA. Using a universal charger or power bank with a typical current output of 1500mA or 2000mA will make the charging process only limited by the battery charging module and the ambient temperature not exceeding 45°C.
Original chargers for photographic batteries, due to their different construction, are capable of charging the battery in the same amount of time. Cheaper alternative chargers that do not communicate with the battery may result in a charging process that is even twice as long.
The USB-C port in Mathorn MB-1xx, MB-2xx, MB-701, and MB-901 batteries is solely for charging and operates unidirectionally. For the MB-701 and MB-901 models, the power bank function is available only in the USB type-A ports. The MB-V99 model is the only battery allowing bidirectional use of the USB-C port, additionally supporting popular fast charging protocols found in smartphones.
Mathorn MB-1xx and MB-2xx batteries work with all dedicated chargers. To ensure a balance between cell lifespan, safety, and charging speed, it is recommended to use chargers that monitor the battery temperature during the charging process. Such chargers typically come equipped with an additional third pin responsible for temperature monitoring.
All Mathorn products are covered by a three-year warranty.
The warranty covers a loss of battery cell capacity exceeding 10% of the minimum capacity within the first month from the purchase date, which is considered the first date of use. The warranty also covers other battery components whose proper functioning ceases independently of user actions and external factors, provided that the battery has been used in accordance with the user manual. The upper temperature limit for Mathorn batteries is 60°C. Discharging and charging the battery at temperatures above 60°C significantly accelerates cell aging and may lead to overheating of the battery protection circuit. For safety reasons and to ensure the longest possible battery life, it is recommended to adhere to the recommended temperature ranges both during charging and discharging of the battery.
Mathorn batteries tolerate low temperatures well and can operate at temperatures down to -20°C. However, it’s important to remember that charging the batteries should only be done at positive temperatures to prevent cell damage.
Mathorn batteries with a capacity below 100 Wh can be taken on board an airplane in carry-on luggage, but not in checked luggage. Most airlines allow the transportation of batteries with a capacity up to 100 Wh without the need for special permission. However, we always recommend checking the regulations and restrictions of the specific airline before traveling, as they may vary.
The way batteries are stored is crucial for their lifespan and self-discharge rate.
If you plan not to use the battery for longer than a month, it’s best to discharge it to around 50% and remove it from the device. Optimal storage conditions include a temperature range of +10 to +20 degrees Celsius and moderate humidity.
Long-term storage of batteries while fully charged, as well as in conditions deviating from the recommended ones, accelerates the aging process of the cells and may lead to a gradual loss of capacity.
Mathorn batteries are characterized by a very long self-discharge time. A fully charged and unused battery, if stored at room temperature, can retain up to 90% of its charge level for a period of 2 years.
Yes. Mathorn MB-2xx series batteries are also suitable for cameras that do not offer 8K video recording. Filming in high resolution is just one of several situations where the camera consumes more power. Similarly high demand occurs during continuous shooting and when optical and mechanical stabilization are in operation.
In the case of Mathorn batteries, the minimum capacity is always measured under a load of 1C (2400 mA for Ultimate batteries), which reflects the most demanding operating conditions. Most replacement manufacturers do not provide information on this, which may mean that the battery capacity stated on the label was measured at a standard discharge current ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 of the nominal capacity, i.e., from 225 mAh to 450 mAh. Meanwhile, the current demand of full-frame cameras filming in 8K resolution is nearly ten times higher.
USB cables
MTC cables are designed for all camera models equipped with USB Type-C and Micro B connectors, providing full compatibility in principle. To fully utilize tethering, a computer or tablet with the appropriate software is necessary. More information can be found in the camera’s user manual.
All MTC cables are suitable for video transmission using special applications, such as live preview from digital cameras. This transmission relies on data exchange between the camera and the computer and requires the use of specific applications. The exception is MTC-210/M and MTC-211/M cables, which, like DisplayPort cables, enable image transmission in 4K60Hz standard, allowing direct connection of the camera to a monitor.
The actual data transfer rate of Mathorn cables varies depending on the cable model and is dependent on the performance of the connected devices. For MTC-210/M and MTC-211/M series cables, the maximum actual transfer rate is up to 2000 MB/s. For other cable models, the maximum actual transfer rate is up to 1200 MB/s.
Yes, it is possible to charge various devices with power of up to 100 watts (depending on the cable model).
Yes, Mathorn cables work well with both computers and portable devices such as tablets or smartphones.
Yes, Mathorn MTC cables are compatible with any tethering software, both provided by the camera manufacturer and independent software such as Adobe Lightroom or CaptureOne.
Mathorn cables utilize cushioned connectors, which reduce tension in the event of accidental pulling or tugging on the cable. When using a camera connected to a computer and capturing images in motion, the connector is prone to damage or breakage. The cushioned ends protect the camera socket from damage.
Yes, MTC series USB cables are backward compatible up to USB 2.0. The only limitation in this case will be the speed of the USB port in the camera, which may not allow the full potential of the MTC cable to be utilized.
